Commuting in Boston isn’t easy, but this map takes the annoyance out of planning

Hi there! If you’re new to Boston and have found this in an effort to plan your stay/commute, I hope you’ve found this map useful!

Boston is a city that is anchored by a thriving biotech industry where the center of gravity is Cambridge. There’re a bunch of research labs concentrated in the Kendall Square area, right by the waterfront so there’s but a couple of ways to get into that part of town, yippee.

The financial and services industry is concentrated in a small Downtown, also surrounded by the water, or the Seaport- again with the water.

Geographical limitations coupled with where industries have developed has made commuting into these areas a source of frustration. (And the corresponding cost of real estate very very expensive.)

As a real estate agent, I’m often talking about the intersection between work location, commute times, neighborhood preferences and purchase price points. I’d be sharing my screen of Google Maps during client consults in a bid to articulate Boston’s real estate landscape, and be challenged when I’m trying to show commute options to clients who don’t drive- transit lines aren’t all simultaneously visible on Google Maps.

Or to clients who do drive but would rather not park in the city, I’d find myself stumped when asked “where’s the nearest garage, how many spots are there, and is park-and-ride a realistic option for me?”.

Enough with that.

This map has been a necessary labor of love so you’ll get to optimize your commute experience in Boston. 😎
