Going the extra mile when no one's watching

To Dulcilene, for inspiring.

Dear Dulcilene,

You may never read this post. After all, english isn’t your first language, and even if I’d written this in Portuguese, I’m not sure you’d have time to browse the internet anyway, what with cleaning an average of 5 homes a day for the past 15 years.

I wish I could tell you just how much your work ethic humbled and inspired me.

When I got to my client’s house and saw the refrigerator out of place, I thought that a contractor had moved it to take measurements for its replacement and disposal. I later found out that it was you who had gotten it out of its pocket in order to clean the back and sides. Where there were areas at the top that you couldn't get to, you had your friend help. If this was not surprise enough, I certainly was taken aback when you pulled the stove’s knobs off and lifted the metal plates to get to unseen areas.

In the real estate industry where it’s sadly not uncommon to have people cut corners, I am reminded that there are still good people out there doing an honest job.

Thank you for allowing me to witness your pride in work.
